Virtual Nordic Handcraft Workshop: The Copper Ladybug with Elizabeth Belz

Wednesday, June 30, 2021 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Try out working with malleable and easy-to-cut copper at home while making a ladybug to display. Copper is an important metal tradition in Sweden and was traditionally used to make both decorative and practical items. In this class, metalsmith Elizabeth Belz will walk students through cutting, embossing, shaping and finishing a sheet of copper into a small sculpture in just two hours. You might even catch the metal-working bug! This project is suitable for ages 14 and up.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Kits ($15 value) are included in the class fee. Each kit includes an embossing stick, nail, copper, patterns, and brass fasteners and wire. Students must also provide a small hammer, three pieces of cardboard, a permanent marker and scissors. Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute one week before class, June 24-27, or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee. Registration for this class closes on June 20.
