Virtual Nordic Handcraft Workshop: DIY Crayfish Party Decorations with Kayla McDaniels

Wednesday, August 5, 2020 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

August in Sweden means the last few weeks at the summer house, the beginning of school and…crayfish parties! The traditional end-of-summer garden party (called a kräftskiva) centers around a tasty seasonal treat – Swedish crayfish boiled with dill (though today, most Swedes eat imported crayfish). These parties are known for their singing, lots of aquavit and colorful paper decorations, including party hats! In this class, join ASI instructor and illustrator Kayla McDaniels to create your own paper lanterns, moons, and hats at home. She’ll walk you through these simple projects with whatever kind of paper you have on hand, and you’ll be well on your way to being ready to throw your own Swedish-style crayfish party at home!

This is a virtual class taught over Zoom; students need a good internet connection and device with video and audio capacity (such as a computer or tablet) to participate.

To get the full Swedish experience, you can also sign up for our August 12 Kräftskiva at Home! virtual workshop with Patrice Johnson. Patrice will walk you through a full kräftskiva menu so you’ll be ready to tackle this classic summer celebration yourself!
