Youth and Family Programs

The American Swedish Institute's Youth and Family Programming is extensive, varied, fun and welcoming to kids of all skill levels and backgrounds (and their grown-ups). ASI's eclectic range of creative activities and offerings includes: the Turnblad Mansion's Third Floor Family Gallery with rotating installations and an interactive play area; our regular Family Days and Kids at the Castle events; Youth Slöjd (Craft) Workshops; and our extended school year class sessions such as Svenska Skolan, which mixes Swedish language with music and games for kids ages 4 to 13, and På Gång, a Sunday afternoon Swedish class/social club for teens.

We encourage young people to explore their creative side through play, craft and language learning. Kids can express themselves, expand their imagination and develop a sense of innovation and experimentation through open-ended creativity.  Hands-on, interactive activities can build life-long skills and open up alternative perspectives of the world.

    Making Traditions: Music and Family Craft

    Sunday, December 16: Music in the Mansion (2-3 p.m.) & Family Craft (1-3 p.m.) Throughout the holiday season, experience the joy of gathering together at ASI! Encounter music, dance, handcraft and more while exploring the Handmade Holidays exhibition and the decorated Nordic Holiday Rooms in the Turnblad Mansion. Any visit can become a joyous treat for all ages to build memories and new holiday traditions. Mark your calendars for other Music in the Mansion and Family Craft opportunities:
    Cost: Music in the Mansion and Family Craft are included with museum admission. There are additional fees for Julglädje performances.
