Directions and Parking

The American Swedish Institute is located at 2600 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55407. 


Free parking is available in our surface parking lot, located at 27th Street and Park Avenue. We have a number of wheelchair accessible parking spaces on the east side of the lot.

Biking to ASI

Swedes love bikes and we do, too! Park Avenue, Portland Avenue, and 26th Street all have designated bike lanes. ASI is conveniently located just three blocks north of the Midtown Greenway Park Avenue exit. Greenway map.  Free bike racks are located near the ASI entrance (please make sure to securely lock your bike). 

Need to rent a bike? Nice Ride bicycles have a hub behind the Mansion on Oakland Avenue South & 26th Street. 

Public Transit

The best way to plan your trip on Minneapolis public transportation is to use the Metro Transit website. You can enter your location and destination to get instructions on which routes and transfers best fit your trip.

By Bus: Route 5 runs between downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America on Chicago Avenue. It makes stops two blocks from ASI, at 26th Street and Chicago Avenue. Route 21 runs along Lake Street, which is four blocks north of the ASI campus. Request a stop at Park Avenue/Lake Street. 

By Light Rail: When traveling on the Blue Line, get off at the Lake Street/Midtown station. Transfer to the 21 Bus Route. Request to stop at the Lake Street/Park Avenue stop. Walk four blocks north on Park Avenue to ASI. From Saint Paul, take the Green Line to the U.S. Bank Stadium station. Transfer to the Blue Line then follow Blue Line instructions. 

Driving Directions

PLEASE NOTE: There are ongoing road construction projects in Minneapolis that may impact your route to the American Swedish Institute.  Please check the MNDOT 35W@94 project page for the latest detours and closures. 

From the west: Take Interstate 394 east to the Dunwoody/Hennepin Avenue exit. Merge onto Lyndale Avenue and continue on Lyndale until Lake Street. Turn left on Lake and continue about one mile to Park Avenue. Turn left on Park Avenue and proceed four blocks. Turn left into our parking lot. (Alternatively, take a left onto Franklin from Lyndale, then a right onto Portland, turning left onto E 27th St and then a left onto Park). 

From the northwest: Take Interstate 94 east to the Lyndale Avenue exit. Stay on Lyndale Avenue to Lake Street. Turn left on Lake Street and continue about one mile to Park Avenue. Turn left on Park Avenue and proceed four blocks. Turn left into our parking lot.

From the east: Take Interstate 94 West to Exit 234C for Cedar Avenue. Turn left onto Cedar Ave S and then take another left onto Minnehaha Avenue. Then (bear with us!) turn right onto Cedar Avenue and continue south until East 26th Street. Take a right on 26th St and drive for close to a mile. Turn left onto Columbus Ave S, take the first right onto E 27th St, then the first right onto Park Avenue. Then turn left into our parking lot. 

From the south: Take Interstate 35W North to Exit 14 and turn right onto E 36th Street. Continue on E 36th St until Park Avenue. Take a left onto Park Avenue and continue north for about 1.5 miles. Turn left into our parking lot.

From the north: Take 35W South and use the right 2 lanes to take exit 17A for MN-55 E/Hiawatha after crossing the River. Follow Hiawatha/55 for less than one mile and turn right onto E 26th Street. Continue on 26th to Oakland Avenue (one block past Park Ave.) and take a left on Oakland. Go one block to 27th and take a left, turn into the ASI surface lot. 

Alternately - from the north and I35W, exit 17B for 11th Avenue. Turn left onto 11th Ave and then (at the third cross street) a right onto Franklin Avenue. Drive about half a mile and then turn left onto Portland Avenue S. Go about another half mile south on Portland and then take a left onto E 27th St to Park Avenue. Take a left onto Park and then turn left into our parking lot. 

From the northeast: Take Hwy. 36 west to Interstate 35W south. (see above for rest of directions)
